Lapis lazuli tree of life jewelry gives new form to one of humanity’s oldest and most widely shared symbols. Almost every culture has embraced the Tree of Life, and in our Santiago workshops we interpret it in natural lapis lazuli and 950 sterling silver.
The symbol’s history is remarkably rich. For the Maya, a great world tree connected the heavens, the earth and the underworld, Xibalba, with its branches reaching in four directions. One of the oldest names of Babylon, Tin-tir-ki, is often translated as the place of the tree of life, and early Sumerian art shows a sacred tree, the axis mundi, linking heaven, earth and the world below. In Egyptian mythology, Isis and Osiris were said to have emerged from the acacia tree of Iusaaset, considered the tree of life. Today the tree is traditionally associated with growth, family and the connection between all living things.
