Our lapis lazuli Easter Island jewelry is inspired by Rapa Nui, the remote volcanic island in the South Pacific that belongs to Chile and lies more than 2,000 miles from the nearest population centers. Its early settlers called it Te Pito O Te Henua, the Navel of the World; Dutch admiral Jacob Roggeveen, who arrived on Easter Day in 1722, gave it the name Easter Island. Today the land, the people and the language are all known as Rapa Nui.
The island is best known for its Moai, the giant stone figures that line its coast, and our artisans in Santiago could not resist translating them into lapis and silver. The collection, part of our Native Symbols Jewelry, includes a lapis lazuli Moai charm and a Tangata Manu (Bird Man) charm, honoring the island’s ancient birdman tradition. The Rapa Nui ring necklace and the sterling silver Rapa Nui semi collar carry these motifs around the neck, and the lapis Moai and Moai Pukao figures, the latter with the red topknot that crowns some statues, bring the island into your home.
The jewelry is worked in 950 sterling silver, and every piece uses natural lapis, so its blue, white calcite veining and golden pyrite flecks are unique.
Lapis Lazuli World has been a family workshop in Chile since 1972. For anyone who has visited the island, or dreams of it, lapis lazuli Easter Island jewelry is a meaningful keepsake.
