Jewelry Care

There are a few things you can do to keep your jewelry shining, and tarnish free:

  • Keep silver away from sulfurous material, sulfur is silver’s main corrosive agent.
  • Keeping your treasured silver in an airtight zipper bag (like a Ziploc bag) will also help, this will keep the sulfur and other corrosive agents in the air from coming in contact with your silver.
  • Store jewelry separately so it doesn’t scratch other jewelry.
  • Avoid storing your jewelry next to a heating vent, window sill or on a car dashboard.
  • Store jewelry away from sunlight as the sun may fade the gemstones.
  • Always store bead necklaces (such as lapis, pearls, etc) flat as silk stretches over time.
  • Do not wear silver while bathing, doing dishes, cleaning with chemicals, or anything else where the jewelry would come into contact with abrasive soaps or chemicals.
  • Do not “scrub” silver with a brush or coarse cloth. Silver is a soft metal and will scratch
  • Never wear jewelry while swimming in a swimming pool. The chlorine can cause damage to various gemstones and gold. Gemstones may become loose in their settings (and possibly fall out).
  • Use a jewelry polishing cloth. If used regularly, a polishing cloth can keep tarnish from building up.
  • Do not use dips on pieces that have decorative oxidation, mosaic work or enamel.  If a dip is used it will remove the tarnish, but will also remove the decorative treatment.
  • Do not wear silver while working outside, playing sports, or other activities that may result in scratching or denting.
  • Do not sleep with a chain on, it may kink or break.
  • Put your jewelry on after washing and applying any makeup/hair spray
  • If necessary, clean the stones with a mild soap and water solution, rubbing the stain with a soft cloth. Do not use any solvents or alcohol to clean the stones, as they might take their luster away.
  • If a inlayed becomes loose, take it to a professional for re-setting. We guarantee all our pieces against defect, and they are designed to be extremely wearable and resist a lot of mistreatment. Our stones are not glued, they are set in an Sterling Silver frame.
  • Be certain that stones mounted in rings are not loose or rattle. The prongs of a ring can and do wear down. If the prongs wear down too much or break, you’ve lost the stone. Prongs are easily “retipped” by most jewelers to keep the stone secure.
  • Handcrafted pieces are tested, one by one, for structural integrity.  They will resist normal wear and tear with very little care on your part!  If you follow these guidelines, our jewelry will last you a lifetime!
