For more than fifty years, our artisans in Santiago have turned the deep celestial blue of lapis lazuli into jewelry and decor meant to last a lifetime. Lapis Lazuli World began in 1972 as a family workshop founded by our grandparents. We opened our online store in 2001, and today the third generation of our family carries that tradition to customers around the world.
Every piece in our collection is made in our own Santiago workshops by a team of 16 full-time artisans. They select each stone for its color, cut and polish it by hand, and set it in sterling silver, vermeil, or 14K and 18K gold. Because lapis lazuli is a natural stone, no two pieces are exactly alike: the swirls of blue, the soft veining and the golden flecks of pyrite make each one unique.
Most of the lapis lazuli we work with comes from Chile’s lapis mine, high in the Andes, one of the few places in the world where this rare blue stone is found. Its rich color and golden pyrite flecks are what made Chilean lapis jewelry famous. We are now also incorporating lapis lazuli from Afghanistan, the stone’s most ancient source, where it has been mined for thousands of years.
