Lapis lazuli Mapuche symbols jewelry is inspired by the Mapuche, the indigenous people of southern Chile and Argentina, whose symbolism connects people, the land, which they call Mapu, and the cosmos. Mapuche silverwork has a long tradition of its own, and our Santiago artisans pay tribute to it in 950 sterling silver and natural lapis.
The kultrún, a ceremonial drum whose painted face traditionally represents the Mapuche view of the world, divided into four parts, is the motif at the heart of this collection. It appears in the Channeling Kultrun necklace, in a pair of lapis lazuli and sterling silver kultrún earrings and in the Kultrun link bracelet. The Nayeli chained set coordinates several pieces in the same spirit, and the Coralia round pendant offers a simple circular design.
These symbols speak of balance, ancestry and the relationship between all living things, ideas that give each piece a meaning beyond its appearance. Within our Native Symbols Jewelry, this collection sits alongside designs inspired by Easter Island and other cultures of Chile.
Most of our lapis comes from Chile’s mine in the Andes, so these pieces are rooted in the same land that inspired them. Every stone is natural, with its own blue, white calcite veining and golden pyrite flecks, making each piece unique. Lapis Lazuli World has been a family workshop since 1972, and we make our lapis lazuli Mapuche symbols jewelry ourselves.
